How to Grow Coriander

How to Grow Coriander

Coriander is an annual and is easy enough to grow, given certain conditions. It is best sown directly into the ground or the vessel you wish to grow it in, as it is very temperamental when being transplanted. Coriander loves warm conditions and can thrive in your garden.

It prefers a light, well drained soil, plenty of moisture and not too much sun. Heat and long days in the sun cause coriander to bolt. When in flower it will attract bees so is great to plant around your berry fruit. Try not to overwater as it hates having wet feet.

The seeds should be sown in early spring, once all danger of frost has passed. The seeds take about two weeks to germinate and can be thinned out once at around 5cm. Coriander is best used straight from the garden pull the soft leaves off the stalk and place directly into your cooking. It will also store well in a container covered with a little water, Coriander is able to be dried but the quality isn't the best, if you are wanting to store long-term it is able to be frozen but really nothing beats it fresh! Try growing it inside during winter months in a pot on a sunny window sill.
